10個常用的 Idioms (慣用語)

 1. Once in a blue moon

意思: 某件事情很少發生。

例句:

I am not really fond of watching movies in the theater. If I did, it would just be once in a blue moon.

2. Beat around the bush

意思: 拐彎抹角、旁敲側擊,不斷重複不必要的話語。

例句:

It seems like you are trying to beat around the bush. What happened?(看來你好像一直拐彎抹角不談這件事,到底怎麼了?)

3. Cost an arm and a leg

意思: 說某樣東西花了一隻手臂和一條腿,意思是太貴了,買不起。

例句:

Jane was disappointed when she found out that the gown she had been dreaming of wearing cost and arm and a leg.

4. To break a leg

意思: 當我們想在某人表演時讓他們振奮起來時,我們會說「 To break a leg」。 意思是「祝你好運」。

例句:

Chiara is going to perform on the British Got Talent stage. I told her to break a leg!

5. under the weather

意思:

感覺不舒服或生病。

例句:

I was not able to report to work on Monday because I was feeling under the weather. I just took a rest.

6. Pull someone’s leg

意思:開玩笑

例句

Relax, I am just pulling your leg(放輕鬆點,我只是在和你開玩笑)

7. Through thick and thin

意思:患難與共

例句:

We are the real friends to each other through thick and thin.

8. It’s the best thing since sliced bread

意思:真的非常好!

例句:

I won the lottery which offered me to travel abroad! It’s the best thing since sliced bread.(我中樂透可以出國玩了,這真的是最棒的事情!)

9. The ball is in your court

意思:

輪到你來決定某件事了。 

例句:

After their parents passed away, John was tasked with taking the ball in his court to make their business survive.

10. Through thick and thin

意思: 患難與共

例句:

   Many families are broken because couples failed to fulfill their promise that         they would love each other through thick and thin.
